Playgroup - a space for tamariki to play alongside their whānau

Did you know there is a Rudolf Steiner Playgroup for young children in Taupō? Held in the kindy home at Four Seasons Kindergarten, our playgroup offers a calm, welcoming space for whānau and little ones to gather together twice a week.

Our sessions run on Monday and Wednesday from 2:45–4:45pm. Monday afternoons are “Baby and You,” designed especially for non-walking babies and their caregivers, creating a quiet, gentle environment for connection and conversation. Wednesday afternoons are open to all ages (birth to 3+), where toddlers and young children can explore, play, and socialise alongside their whānau.

Each session follows a simple, nurturing rhythm inspired by the Rudolf Steiner approach. Families share songs, waiata, a story, and a homemade afternoon tea, with dietary requirements catered for where needed. The relaxed pace allows both adults and tamariki to build relationships and experience the warmth of parenting in community.

Playgroup also provides an opportunity to become familiar with the kindergarten environment and kaiako as they finish their day with the older tamariki. This gentle introduction can be especially valuable for families considering Four Seasons Kindergarten for their child’s future.

For families enrolled full time in playgroup, we also organise one fully covered outing each term, giving whānau a chance to connect beyond the playgroup space.

If you are looking for a small, friendly playgroup that reflects Steiner values of rhythm, warmth, and community, we would love to welcome you.

Please visit the playgroup’s Facebook page for more information.
