Our Commitment to Steiner Waldorf Early Childhood Education
At Four Seasons Kindergarten in Taupō, we believe that how a child begins their educational journey matters deeply. The early years are not simply a stepping stone to school. They are a foundation unto themselves, rich with meaning, rhythm, and the unhurried unfolding of childhood.
Our kindergarten is proud to be a Full Member of Waekura and SEANZ (Steiner Education Aotearoa New Zealand) a recognition that reflects not only the quality of our endeavours, but the depth of our commitment to the Steiner Waldorf kaupapa across every layer of our kindergarten’s life.
Four Seasons holds a unique place in Aotearoa's Steiner Waldorf landscape. When we sought to establish as a not-for-profit trust in 2010, the path proved too difficult to navigate. Rather than abandon the vision, three mothers and their whānau chose to invest privately, making Four Seasons the only privately owned Steiner Waldorf educational context in New Zealand. But private ownership has never meant private purpose. We hold education as social art and renewal, a responsibility to our community, to the children in our care, and to a future being shaped in these earliest years. That conviction is what drove the founding of Four Seasons, and it is what continues to guide us.
That spirit of commitment runs through everything we do. Our kaiako hold both ECE qualifications and undertake Steiner Waldorf-specific training, and we actively seek kaiako who bring genuine understanding of, and passion for, this approach. Our philosophy statement, curriculum, and policies are not just documents. They are living expressions of how we work with tamariki and whānau every day.
Through our relationship with Waekura and SEANZ, we are part of a national network of Steiner Waldorf early childhood centres, sharing learning, upholding shared standards, and contributing to the strength of this kaupapa across Aotearoa. Full Membership is not simply a label we carry. It is a commitment we actively choose to meet and maintain.
When tamariki leave Four Seasons Kindergarten, they carry with them more than readiness for the next steps in education. They carry a sense of wonder, a grounded confidence, and the invisible gift of having been truly seen and nurtured by kaiako and a community who understood the privilege and the responsibility of those first years.
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa, to our whānau, our community, and all who trust us with their precious tamariki.
