100 years & an open invitation

Steiner Waldorf early childhood education turns 100 this year, and we're throwing open our gates to celebrate — Saturday 5th September, 11am–1pm.

We often bump into past families around Taupō, many of them teenagers now, some of them a good head taller than the kaiako who once helped with gumboots and told stories each day. "Is the soup still the same?" they ask. It always is. There's something about that smell — kindy soup on the stove, freshly baked bread rolls, the garden after rain — that brings a person straight back to their childhood. Smell has a way of doing that; it's the sense most tied to memory.

So this Open Day is really an invitation to come home for a visit. Wander the garden, sit at the mudpit, reacquaint yourselves with the kindy home, and share some soup and buns with us — the same recipe.

If you're a past family, come and see how little has changed, and how much has stayed exactly the way you remember it.

If you're a teacher curious about what a Steiner Waldorf kindergarten actually looks like day to day, or want to talk pedagogy over a cup of tea, we'd love that too.

And if you're a whānau still weighing up where to entrust your little one for their early years, this is a gentle, unhurried way to see us as we really are — no formal tour, just an open door.
